Cougars Cafe open during Highland Games

Just a wee heads up for everyone for Sunday. The Highland Games are on at Broomfield and as usual the Cougar Cafe will be up and running with its usual fine quality fair from the BBQ and the Kitchen. So make sure that if you are at the games don't waste your money on food inside, stop by the club for prime quality burgers, steaks, chips, teas, coffees and much more. Remember to tell your friends as well.

Cumnock RFC Senior Reports for 15 August 2009

Cumnock 31 Carnoustie 18

Cumnock’s new youthful team improved on their win against Strathaven last week with a fresh win against a strong Carnoustie in the 2nd pre-season game.

A great ball off the top at the lineout from McMillan, quickly moved to Bennett running an excellent line to power through the defence offloading to foster who dragged the defence to create space for Bennett to scorch down the right wing and score in the corner. constant pressure from the Cumnock team turned into a second try, as the ball was spilled by Carnoustie Martin Wilson hacked the ball on which he out sprinted the defence to touch down.

The pressure just kept on coming for Cumnock when the forwards and backs combining together. The forwards set up a great platform from a lineout which was passed to the backs. The whole team combined for the forwards to collect the ball from the kick through and Kevin Brady collected the ball and scored the try.

After a great first half for Cumnock, Carnoustie showed its muscle and experience when Carnoustie scored some tries of their own, but Cumnock’s youthful team hadn’t finished scoring yet.

Craig Greer who showed some great forward thinking and moving went through several players from around 10 metres out and beat everyone to the try line to top off what had been a great game for him and the whole Cumnock team.

The newest member of the Scotland Under 18 Training Squad including Scotland National Academy, Mark Bennett topped off a great game by a trademark try of his own, after making another try from his own half after some great passing to let his loose from the backs.

Cumnock 43 Renfrew 5

The team performed really well in this the 1st time both Cumnock senior teams were out. Several players scored including John Ferrans, Andrew Watt, Jason Johnstone, Greg Hamilton.
It was a great performance and we wish to thank Renfrew for coming down.

Update on 10th October after BBQ.

Hi Everyone,

Just watched our firsts and seconds have two great wins yesterday against Carnoustie and Renfrew. The average age of the Cumnock teams was incredibly young yet they all looked the part. Great atmosphere in the club afterwards as well which gave everyone a taste of what the sponsors day on the 10h October will be like.

One of the highlights was Rab Donald getting “Dick o’ the Day” for the seconds for getting a doin’ from a wee hooker

I have some new names to add to the list:

Yvonne Bennett
Linda McLue
Jim Archibald
Match McCrorie
Dobie
Keith Miller
Kriss McGinn
Robin Hunter
Lesley Spicer
Ned Carswell
Jimmy Carswell
Kim Murdoch
Jimmy Thomson (to be confirmed)

I'm told Snebber is coming although he hasn't been in contact. Joke is this right and are you coming as well.

Willie Archibald (tbc)
Tam Hunter (tbc)

This puts the numbers up to over 65. The limit of 80 is closing in very quickly. Add in 40 players and the club is going to be jumping.

Jock Murdoch has also agreed to be the main sponsor of the day so thanks very much for that Jock. Davie says he is glad your are coming as it gives him plenty of stories to tell.

Could everyone please forward their payments to me as soon as possible as I need to have paid up places to organise the catering.

Morton
